The existing Nova College site on the Ziglweg in Haarlem still had an unused section. Paul de Tuiter Architects have designed two sustainable buildings here. The energy neutral education building is located near to the main building of the Nova College in Haarlem. Together with landscape architect ZUS, new plans were drawn up for a fresh, green and attractive outdoor area.
Sustainability was central to the design of the two Nova College buildings. Both the education building (care) and pavillion (De Mug) are energy-neutral with natural materials used everywhere. Besides circularity, a pleasant and healthy indoor climate played an equally important role in the design of the new educational building. With the help of hybrid climate islands and windows that can be easily opened, excellent air quality was created.
Paul de Ruiter architects chose aluminium window frames and curtain walling from WICONA. All facades needed to comply with the Cradle 2 Cradle certification. The applied WICONA systems - WICLINE 65 and WICTEC 50 - are both certified as Cradle 2 Cradle Silver.
Due to the high, transparent facade it was necessary to use windows that were inconspicuous but provided fresh rooms filled with natural light. WICLINE 90 SG windows were chosen for this purpose. These windows are connected electronically. The structural glazing used means that the windows do not stand out and ensure that the glare is fully transmitted across the glazing.
The basis for this project was circularity, and so WICONA supplied the windows and curtain walling in Hydro CIRCAL 75R. Hydro CIRCAL 75R is a prime quality alloy that contains at least 75% recycled end-of-life aluminium, a circular solution recovered from old windows, doors and facades from demolition and renovation projects.
