PROJECT DETAILS
New school building
A new sports high school has been completed in Dornbirn in Voralberg - at the same time, the existing technical college has been extended. The new building, realised according to plans by hackl und klammer Architekten, impresses with its modern architecture and high functionality. Sustainable aluminium systems from WICONA are used on the façade.
Uniting school and sport
For many years, the sports high school in Dornbirn has been regarded as a ‘training centre’ for talented young athletes, giving them the opportunity to combine the school-leaving examination with optimal talent development. In cooperation with the sports associations and the neighbouring Vorarlberg Olympic Centre, numerous future top athletes have already been prepared for their careers here. In order to continue to offer ambitious young athletes the best possible learning and training conditions in the future, local politicians decided in favour of the construction of a new five-storey building and a new hard court - harmoniously integrated into the surrounding architecture. Dipl. arch. (FH) Dieter Klammer: ‘The new building is set back from the existing HTL building, takes on its curvature and defines a shared outdoor space - the campus square with the entrances for the sports high school and HTL.’ The first floor connects to the existing building as a bridge structure. The rooms for the HTL extension are housed here. Inside, the new building impresses with open learning zones, modern classrooms and ‘piazza-like’ intermediate zones - always with several views to the outside.
Aluminium windows with maximum performance
In terms of design and construction, the new building is a ‘noble blank’. The load-bearing in-situ concrete construction is visible both inside and out. Natural-coloured aluminium windows based on the WICLINE 75 TOP series from WICONA are used on the building envelope to match the in-situ concrete façade strips. Manufactured and installed by long-standing WICONA partner Manahl Metallbau GmbH (Bludenz), the thermally highly insulating system combines outstanding energy performance at passive house level with an aesthetic and slim 75 mm look.
The building also features numerous WICSTYLE 75 evo doors, WICSTYLE 77FP fire doors and portals and WICSLIDE 160HI sliding door systems. All installed systems were manufactured from the sustainable aluminium alloy Hydro CIRCAL 75R with at least 75% recycled end-of-life aluminium. An all-round school-like construction project!
